Industry-wide study highlights workforce challenges
WRIQ CEO Alison Price has shared insights from Queensland’s first industry-wide Economic Contribution and Workforce Study in Waste Management Review. The article highlights growing workforce pressures across the waste and recycling sector, with more than half of surveyed employers reporting shortages in critical operational roles. As Queensland’s population grows and industry demands increase, Alison emphasises the need for long-term investment in workforce attraction, retention and practical, industry-led training. The study provides a valuable evidence base to guide future workforce planning and strengthen the sector’s capacity to deliver essential services.
