NHVR Waste and Recycling Industry Code of Practice Training (Webinar)

29 September @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Is your business ready for the Waste and Recycling Industry Code of Practice?

If your decisions influence how waste is collected, loaded, transported or received, you may have a role in heavy vehicle safety — even if you never operate a truck. The Waste and Recycling Industry Code of Practice provides practical, industry-specific guidance to help businesses understand and meet their obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and Chain of Responsibility. This free one-day training is designed for people across the waste and recycling supply chain who influence truck movements, transport arrangements and operational safety — from waste generators, councils and sales teams through to operational, safety and executive management.

Who should attend?

This training is relevant to anyone whose decisions can influence the movement of waste by heavy vehicle, including:

  • Waste generators and customers
  • Council personnel
  • Sales and account managers
  • Business owners and executives
  • Operational and transport managers
  • Safety and compliance personnel
  • Supervisors
  • Loaders and receiving facility personnel

Chain of Responsibility means heavy vehicle safety does not sit with the driver or transport manager alone. Decisions about contracts, collection requirements, loading, scheduling, site access, waste information and operational practices can all affect how safely and compliantly waste is transported.

What you will learn

The training will help participants understand:

  • Chain of Responsibility and the responsibilities of parties across the waste and recycling supply chain.
  • The Heavy Vehicle National Law, primary duty and regulatory obligations.
  • Practical hazard and risk management for waste and recycling operations.
  • Load restraint and load security, including industry-specific examples involving load shift, scrap metal and correct restraint.
  • The responsibilities of waste generators and other parties and the importance of communication across the chain.
  • How to identify and manage hazardous waste, including appropriate labelling, segregation and information sharing.
  • Practical steps to strengthen communication, systems, procedures and compliance across your business and supply chain.

A funded opportunity for your business

This training is fully funded to help the waste and recycling industry understand and implement the Code before compliance becomes an enforcement issue. Use the opportunity to identify gaps in your current practices, understand where responsibilities sit across your organisation and learn what good compliance looks like in a waste and recycling operating environment.

FREE OF CHARGE

Training, course materials and resources are fully funded.

Practical guidance. Stronger compliance. Safer heavy vehicle operations.

This project is funded by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulators (NHVR) Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI), supported by the Australian Government
