NHVR Waste and Recycling Industry Code of Practice Training (Moranbah)

4 November @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Is your business ready for the Waste and Recycling Industry Code of Practice?

Heavy vehicle operations in the waste and recycling industry present unique safety and compliance risks. The Waste and Recycling Industry Code of Practice has been developed to provide practical, industry-specific guidance to help operators understand and meet their obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and Chain of Responsibility framework. This fully funded, one-day training course will help business owners, managers and operational leaders understand what the Code means for their business and how to apply it in day-to-day operations.

Why this training matters

Heavy vehicle safety is not just the responsibility of the driver. Under Chain of Responsibility, responsibilities can extend across the waste and recycling supply chain — including waste generators, operators, loaders, transporters and receiving facilities. The Code provides additional guidance on how businesses can identify and manage these risks, establish appropriate controls and demonstrate that their heavy vehicle safety responsibilities are being actively managed.

The training will help participants understand:

  • Chain of Responsibility and the responsibilities of parties across the waste and recycling supply chain.
  • The Heavy Vehicle National Law, primary duty and regulatory obligations.
  • Practical hazard and risk management for waste and recycling operations.
  • Load restraint and load security, including industry-specific examples involving load shift, scrap metal and correct restraint.
  • The responsibilities of waste generators and other parties and the importance of communication across the chain.
  • How to identify and manage hazardous waste, including appropriate labelling, segregation and information sharing.
  • Practical steps businesses can take to strengthen their systems, procedures and compliance.

For higher-risk waste streams such as batteries and other hazardous materials, clearly understanding responsibilities and ensuring the right information follows the material through the supply chain is increasingly important.

Use this funded opportunity to get your business ready

This training has been funded to help the waste and recycling industry build capability and understand the Code before regulatory compliance becomes an enforcement issue. It is an opportunity to review your current practices, identify potential gaps and understand what good compliance looks like in a waste and recycling operating environment.

WRIQ strongly encourages businesses operating heavy vehicles to prioritise attendance by owners, senior managers, transport and operations managers, compliance and safety personnel, and supervisors.

FREE OF CHARGE

Training, course materials and resources are fully funded.
