The Waste, Recycling Industry Association of Queensland (WRIQ) is the premier industry association representing waste businesses in Queensland. Joining WRIQ ensures your business has a voice, gives you access to WRIQ publications and events and will give you the tools to develop and grow your business.
WRIQ is an association for the support its members working towards better services and environmental outcomes for customers and the general public in waste management.
With a dynamic waste and recycling including changes to international markets, state legislation, new technology and local council initiatives, at WRIQ we are seeking to stay abreast of changes to be able to inform and guide our members on issues that may be impacting their organisation and operations.
Our objective is to ensure that members seeking guidance are on the right path. We may achieve that by linking you with one or more people in our network of waste professionals. Or perhaps providing you with sources of required information. Or just discussing an issue of concern or interest.

WRIQ’s MISSION
WRIQ’s mission is to elevate the waste management, recycling and resource recovery sectors through services, education and advocacy for members to achieve successful economic, social, environmental and governance outcomes. By being a member of WRIQ, you are supporting a strong and united advocacy voice.
Advocate
We develop leading positions and solutions on issues of concern to the advancement and sustainability of Queensland’s waste management and resource recovery sectors and we work closely with government and other key stakeholders.
Inform
We publish discussion papers, research papers, project reports, safety guides and deliver expert events to assist the sector and other stakeholders understand key issues, technical advancements, and innovation opportunities. We also undertake projects that deliver practice improvements and technology adoption across our members’ sites. These projects also contribute data and key findings that inform our advocacy.
Campaign
We promote our members and raise the profile of the industry with the media and amongst broader stakeholders to achieve a greater level of understanding about industry management practices; and communicate the significant contribution of the waste management, recycling and resource recovery sectors to the Queensland economy, communities and the environment.
Connect
We bring together Queensland’s waste management and resource recovery sectors on a range of Working Groups that deal with current issues and find solutions to complex problems. We facilitate knowledge exchange and networking opportunities for our members through a range of formal and informal networking and conference events. WRIQ Working Groups are Landfill; Organics; Metals, Training, Workforce and Safety; and Recovery, Markets and Procurement.
MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP
To be eligible for Corporate Membership, the applicant’s core business activity should be contracting to federal, state or local government, or the private sector, to provide services relating to sanitation, waste management, recycling, materials processing, resource management, demolition, waste transport or disposal or other related disciplines, including in the state of Queensland. This membership category is suited to any business that has its core operations in the waste industry.
2024 – 2025 Fees (ex GST)
- A+: 200+ employees – $17,500
- A: 100-200 employees – $10,500
- B: 51-100 employees – $6,750
- C: 26-50 employees – $4,600
- D: 16-25 employees – $3,000
- E: 9-15 employees – $1500
- F: 1-8 employees – $750
ASSOCIATE (BUSINESS) MEMBERSHIP
Associate (business) members may partner with a waste company as part of its core activities or supply products and services the waste industry as part of their wider operations.

- Council <10,000 households – $1,750
- Council 10-30,000 households – $2,900
